Where to buy fresh fish in Newlyn? Print E-mail
Thursday, 17 August 2006
Q. I am a painter and want to buy fresh fish for some of my still life work. When is the market open and when would be the best time to come and buy fresh fish? I live in Truro. You are likely to supply restaurants/shops etc. Is it possible to order different species through these outlets?

The market is only open to traders and not to the public but the fish shops, such as Stevenson, Trelawneys and Tonkin, have a good selection of the freshest supply and I am sure will be happy to assist you.

Trelawneys sends its fish specially packed all over the UK. I suggest you give them a call. Here are some addresses:

Newlyn is the only place i know where there is a fish market but you cannot go in there to buy fish .
The shops are over priced , the staff unfriendly and the fish boutique in Penzance absolutely stinks . Avoid it like the plague .
Even in Billingsgate in London you can go into buy fish . They have it nicely sewn up in Newlyn so you have to go to their shops and pay their over blown prices .
