Trinity, Grade II* listed, has been chosen as one of the 21 buildings in the new BBC2 Restoration Village series. We want to restore the building and make it sound, that alone to cost over £0.5m, and then from it to tell Newlyn's story: its social, cultural, religious, economic life featuring especially Newlyn Art and Copper, Crysede silk, Mystery and Rosebud and individuals sutch as Mary Kelynack and William Lovett.
We anticipate close links with Penlee House as well as with other galleries and listed buildings in the area. This is, though, not just about the past. We hope to encourage artists and craftspeople working in the village today, making links to their work and perhaps even offering space to them within the building.
The building will remain capable of holding religious services and will on a number of occasions throughout the year and will retain the majority of its present form including the important box pews on the ground floor and in the gallery and the original pulpit now contained within the extended rostrum.

Newlyn's Trinity Methodist Chapel has been chosen as one of the 21 buildings to feature in the BBC series "Restoration Village" with Griff Rhys Jones.
Trinity's programme airs on 4th August at 9pm on BBC2. The winner of each programme goes through to a final in September and the eventual winner receives funding towards restoration.
Trinity is busy with the redevelopment of the adjacent schoolroom to form a new church and community centre (The Centre), to be completed in November at a cost of £800,000. Turning our attention to our plans for the chapel (we were unable to manage both schemes at the same time) we were delighted to hear that we had been selected for this programme.
To restore the building was costed at c. £500,000 in 2001, so it will be much higher now. Grade II* listed, the chapel is an important building and we are looking to widen its use to tell Newlyn's cultural, social, religious and economic stories and to encourage creativity in the present, and we anticipate strong links with other similar centres and in particular locally Penlee House Museum and Gallery with its Newlyn School collection. Together with the soon to open Centre, the chapel will form a creative and positive hub within the community.
To make that happen we need all the help we can get. Would you please consider supporting us. I append details below of how to vote and also where you can find further information should you need it. Thank you all for considering this and best wishes, Julyan
To vote for Newlyn Trinity Chapel's restoration, the phone number to call will be 09013 600500. LINES WILL NOT OPEN UNTIL FRIDAY 4TH AUGUST. Calls from a BT landline will cost £1, but the cost of calls from other networks and mobiles may vary. More than 75p from each call will go to our charity The Restoration Fund (charity number 1098895), to help restore the winning building, providing it fulfils the conditions set out by the Trustees of The Restoration Fund.
