It was business as usual this week for the customers of Rover dealer
Roger Harding. Mr Harding, of R C Harding and Son, Tolcarne Motors,
who runs a Rover dealership from his Newlyn, Mousehole and Long
Rock premises, said he was confident his business would be continuing,
despite the collapse of MG Rover which was called into receivership
when a deal with the Chinese collapsed.
"We will still be selling and trading in MGs and Rovers for
the foreseeable future and will continue as a specialist dealer,"
said Mr Harding."
He was hopeful that MG would be bought by someone and the brand
would continue. He also thought that the Indian built City Rover
could possibly be sold under the TATA banner.
He said that thankfully the parts section was owned by a separate
company, Caterpillar, and they kept £40-million worth of spares.
"As for servicing and repairs, it will be business as usual
for our customers. We still have the technical equipment and expertise.
"Most people think the MG side will continue, but there is
a lot to sort out and every day brings something different.
"I personally think we will be selling new MGs. We sell Rovers
because we believe in the cars."
The business was started by Mr Harding's father Ron in 1946 and
became a Rover dealer in 1984.
Mr Harding said they had received letters of support and concern
from customers.
"We are going nowhere. We still have cars to sell and on the
servicing side it's business as usual. We have 1,400 customers on
our database and are confident we can get all the parts we need.
"It's just a matter of letting the dust settle. We are still
getting inquiries and still selling cars. We will still be selling
and trading in MGs and Rovers for the foreseeable future and will
continue as a specialist dealer."
