Newlyn playing numbers game this Christmas Print E-mail
Thursday, 09 December 2004

It's that time of year again and another Newlyn Christmas numbers quiz has been produced to raise money for the Newlyn Project 2000. Last year just over 200 quizzes were sold and 32 were returned. Of those, only 15 were totally correct. Geoff Lane of the Newlyn Project - a scheme to turn part of the old Trinity Methodist Church in a community centre, said: "The quiz literally went round the world. Answers were received from Australia, Canada, every home country - and even Hayle!"

He said the quiz was available from a number of local shops including Barron's Newsagents, Jenny's, Plants for All Seasons, Mount's Bay Fitness and the Newlyn Village Charity shop.

"Grateful thanks to all those who are selling the quiz," said Geoff.

"First prize is £20 with a bottle of wine for second and a box of chocolates for third."

He said that the Newlyn Project 2000 Development Committee continued to raise money for the renovation and improvement of Trinity on Chywoone Hill into a Community Centre for use by all of the people of Newlyn.

"It is hoped that this year's quiz will be as successful as last year's," said Geoff. Nearly £200 was raised and many individuals and families spent many happy hours working out the answers. You can do your bit by spending £1 on this Christmas quiz."
