The Newlyn Fish Industry Forum has a brand new website aimed at getting
residents and organisations and residents involved in the life of the
ares.
Gabriella Nonino, of Orchard Place, Newlyn designed the site after creating
www.newlyn.info last year - a highly
successful news and history site that received 50,000 hits from 42 countries
last month.
The new site will include topics as diverse as the latest updates from
the Newlyn Regeneration Strategy to informations on Newlyn Trail to delicious
fish recipes.
Gabriella said:"These sort of websites generate a lot of interest
with a worldwide audience. They can make a huge difference to a place.
"We want to showcase all the positive improvements that have happened
in Newlyn while preserving the identity of the place and preserving its
soul."
Newlyn Fisheries Project Officer Tony Woodhams will post the NFIF's quarterly
newsletter on-line with an archive of back issues.
A photographic report and project on what life is like being a fisherman
at sea will feature on the site in the future.
"People always think of massive trawlers, but it's really a much
smaller industry that they imagine, often just three men together on a
boat." said Gabriella.
There are also plans to feature five different kinds of boats accompanied
by interviews from fishermen.
Gabriella, who has designed web sites for six years, stressed the importance
of local residents voicing their opinions through the online forum.
She said:"We would like as many opinions on the forum as possible.
It would be great to great a real debate started. The more people that
are on board, the more constructive it will be."
"Newlyn is a terrific place, a terrific community, with terrific
people that deserves the best.
Posters advertising the site have been placed in shops and Gabriella
expects to continue publishing the resource saying:"Hopefully we
sill be a good reference to everyone else."
The site is supported by Penwith District Council and the Newlyn Fish
Industry Forum.
