David Pascoe, a fisherman from Newlyn, has received a grant for his vessel
Little Pearl to upgrade his net hauler.
This will improve the quality of fish he catches and the working condition
of his crew.
The hauler will stop fish from being crushed when the net is hauled in
from the sea by allowing the fish to fall away from the hauler.
This will also remove the need for the crewman to "stand by"
the hauler to guide he fish over.
Objective One funding for the fishing industry can fund an ugrade of
a hauler on the basis fo improved quality and crew comfort, but any upgraded
hauler must be of the same power and fishing capacity.
No funding is available for equipment which will increase fishing effort
or efficiency.
David Pasoe said:"Objective One funding has enabled me to purchase
this revolutionary net hauler for my boat.
"Improving crew comfort and quality of the fish landed has made
a difficult job a little easier, and more viable for the future."
Clare Leverton, Programme Manager of South West Pesca Ltd. said that
anyone interested in applying for funds should ring 01872 270333.
