A poorer place for their passing Print E-mail
Thursday, 04 September 2003

With the death of Sir Terry Frost this week Penwith has lost one of its leading artists and one of its most inspirational characters.

Talk to anyone that knew him and you will get a picture of a humorous, straightforward and charming man with none of the pretensions so often associated with the art world. He was accessible to people from all walks of life and was always ready to share his joy of life. He leaves a huge collection of work as a legacy, so often inspired by Penwith, the place in which he worked and lived and brought up his family.

This very same week another Penwithian has passed on.

Though different from Sir Terry in many respects, Freddie Edwards, a gentleman and master shipwright, shared Sir Terry's love for Penwith, and Penzance and Newlyn in particular.

Like Sir Terry he was much-loved by those that knew him, respected for the quality of his work and, with a wry sense of humour, it was always a joy to share a yarn with him.

Whether they knew each other is not known, though not improbable. They knew many of the same people. Penwith is that kind of place.

It will be all the poorer for their passing.
