Dawn Roberts is offering to take the potential headache and stress out
of selling over the internet with her eBay 'drop-off shop'. Working
from small premises in Newlyn, the 37-year-old mother of four is
already trading as GoinGoinGone.
It
was only a few years ago that Dawn discovered eBay after having her
youngest child, Will, but she soon spotted a gap in the market.
She
explains: "Initially I sold children's toys, clothes and general
household items; I was astounded at the prices people were willing to
pay for second-hand items.
"Having ransacked the whole of our home I began to look for a new outlet. This is when I discovered local auction rooms.
"I
would attend local auctions and purchase items - mainly ceramics - and
pay half of their current value then sell them world-wide on eBay.
"This initially made a tidy profit until others began the same process, which inevitably pushed the auction prices too high.
"Being
known locally for selling on eBay I had several people inquire if I
would sell on commission. I did this on a few occasions and discovered
the potential."
Fortunately, Dawn was able to snap up a small
shop near where she lives, and she now operates Penwith's first Ebay
drop-off shop.
She continued: "The theory behind it is that we take the hassle out of selling.
"We do all the work - even collect - and at the end of the listing the customer receives 70 per cent of the final selling price.
"All cheques will be accompanied by a copy of the final selling invoice, all very up front.
"Not
only will we sell on behalf of general customers we also hope to sell
on behalf of local businesses who may have surplus or dead stock that
they need shifting.
"We may also run a service whereby we search
and buy on behalf of customers who don't want the hassle of eBay or who
may not be in possession of a computer."

The shop can be found in New Road, Newlyn.
