Sunday, October 1 - In the afternoon the Antiguan-flagged general cargo
vessel Validus headed towards Land's End having come from the
Continent.Passing her and heading eastwards was another
Antiguan-flagged cargo vessel. The Wirdum, owned by Reederei Erwin
Strahlmann of Marne, Germany, was built in 1993.
Following her was the cargo vessel Ulrike G. Again, she is registered in Antigua.
Monday,
October 2 - Arriving in the Bay early in the morning was the
British-flagged twin screw ro/ro (roll on, roll off) vessel Baltic
Eager (ex Seawheel Humber).
On arrival she was met by the Penlee
all weather lifeboat Ivan Ellen (17-36), for a pre-arranged medical
evacuation of a Ukranian crew member who had suffered a head injury and
two suspected broken wrists after the vessel encountered heavy weather
at the top end of the Bay of Biscay.
Weather conditions in
Mount's Bay were too poor to transfer the casualty and he had to be
winched off by Rescue helicopter 193 from RNAS Culdrose after two
members of the Penlee crew were put aboard to assist with the winching
operation.
Later in the morning the 2005 built,
Norwegian-flagged chemical/oil carrier Brovig Wind crossed the Bay,
heading towards The Lizard.
Heading westwards at the same time
was the Danish-owned liquid petroleum gas carrier Lydia Kosan, sailing
under the Isle of Man flag.
Later in the afternoon the USA flagged chemical/oil carrier HMI Brenton Reef was seen heading towards The Lizard.
In the evening the Exeter-registered beam trawler Joy of Ladram (E225) was carrying out gear repairs in the Bay.
Tuesday, October 3 - The Scottish scalloper Fredwood (BA338) landed at Newlyn.
Arriving
at Newlyn early in the morning to carry out repairs to a fractured fuel
injection pipe was the Isle D'Yeu-registered French long liner Le
Mirador (YE424612).
Every year she makes three trips to the Smalls fishing grounds and goes back to La Rochelle to land.
Wednesday,
October 4 - The tug Anglian Princess weighed anchor and proceeded to
carry out a routine patrol of Cornwall's North coast.
Heading westwards across the Bay was the German-owned, Gibraltarian-flagged chemical/oil carrier Frank.
Heading eastwards was the twin screwed Maltese registered general cargo vessel Konosha.
The
AA completed her work on the slipway and was launched to be replaced by
the Marie Claire (Pz295) slipped to carry out a hull survey.
Thursday,
October 5 - The Anglian Princess was tasked early in the morning to
stand by the Swiss-owned, Panamanian-flagged container vessel MSC Maria
after she developed engine problems off The Wolf Rock lighthouse.
Her
engineers were able to repair the problem, although Anglian Princess
escorted her through the Traffic Separation Scheme off Land's End.
The Irish seiner Roise Catriona (T100) landed on Newlyn Market.
Heading westwards across the Bay was the Panamanian registered car carrier Nippon Highway.
Friday,
October 6 - The Irish beam trawler Mary Kate (WD220) landed on Newlyn
market and the Scottish scalloper Fredwood (BA338) landed in Newlyn
with her scallops being taken back to Peterhead for processing.
Anchoring
in the bay in the morning to shelter from the gales was the twin
screwed Maltese-flagged general cargo vessel Midland 4.
On the
afternoon tide the Gry Maritha left Penzance and came across to Newlyn
where she moored to await a weather window to get across to St Mary's -
expected to be around midnight.
The Marie Claire completed her
survey and was launched to be replaced by the Nellie (Pz10) which was
slipped to carry out stern gear repairs and replace anodes.
Arriving
at Newlyn early evening for an overnight stay and to refuel was the
Severn class relief lifeboat Margaret Joan and Fred Nye (17-46).
Having left Ireland earlier in the day she was on passage to Yarmouth in the Isle of Wight.
Saturday, October 7 - The Midland 4 weighed anchor in the morning to continue her voyage to Yugoslavia.
The RNLB Margaret Joan and Fred Nye left Newlyn to continue her voyage to the Isle of Wight.
In the afternoon the THV Patricia anchored off Penzance.
Late in the evening the Dutch scalloper Jacoba (UK307) returned to Newlyn following her maintenance period in Holland.
