The Newlyn-based vocal quartet Buccas Four have returned from a wee-
long visit to Concarneau in Britanny. The group were welcomed by
Jean-Claude Jeannnes and other officials of the Penzance/Concarneau
Twinning Association and members of the local press.
A reception was laid on for them in the town hall where they were introduced to the other members of the twinning association.
On
the Wednesday of their visit a concert had been arranged, where they
thrilled a packed hall with the variety of their programme, which
included a special piece entitled Kousk Breiz-Izel, a Breton lullaby
(sung in Breton) arranged by Cmdr K F Northey, of Newlyn.
The concert raised funds for the twinning association to help towards exchange visits in the future.
The
group performed at different venues each evening, mainly in the old
walled part of the town, 'Ville Close', where locals and many visitors
enjoyed their style of singing.
One evening they were invited to
attend an English class, held by Jean-Claude, where they assisted the
students in their use of English.
A picture of Mounts Bay was presented to Jean-Claude for all of his help in making this visit a memorable one.
