Newlyn Crab soup at the Red Lion Print E-mail
Sunday, 10 December 2006

newlyn crab soup“Oh! sweet friends, hearken to me.” If you like your Crab soup made as God intended go no further than the Red Lion in Newlyn.

Made of local succulent Newlyn crab meat flakes, fish stock, white wine, onions and touch of tomato, this soup is the finest Crab soup you will probably ever taste. Prepared fresh every day it’s served with two slices of French bread fried in olive oil and garlic. Wash down with  a pint of Cornish Ale.

The Red Lion is a proper no fuss pub with great views on Newlyn harbour from it's front windows; there is no need to reserve a table (but if you really want to you can call the Red Lion on 01736 362012.) N.B. Their Fish Soup is an equally impressive treat. Enjoy!

So true about the excellent Crab soup at the Red Lion!

We were passing the Red Lion when walking to Mousehole earlier this year - and saw the chalk board outside the Red Lion with Fish Soup on the menu. Went in, lovely old fashioned simple pub - and the Crab soup was unbelievably good. Now regularly travel 500mile round trip on First Great Western train to (almost) just try the crab soup again! Unbelievable, but true...

Also the ever helpful Red Lion Landlord makes us lovely fresh sandwiches for the train journey home on Sunday nights.

Bests wishes, John & Sheila.
