A fish processing business at Hayle is looking to expand after
receiving a grant of more than £12,000.The Objective One fisheries
money has enabled Fresh and Freeze Company Ltd to buy and install a
filleting machine.
The
machine is designed to head, gut and fillet the sardines and herring
that are landed by the company's fishing vessel at Newlyn Harbour.
Before the equipment arrived, the firm said it had headed and gutted about 5% of its fish by hand, and none of it was filleted.
Stefan
Glinski, owner of Fresh and Freeze Company Ltd, said: "This will help
to develop the Cornish sardine fishery and will lead to the
establishment of value added products from Cornwall in all the multiple
retail outlets."
Nicky Harrison, Objective One fisheries project
officer, said: "This a simple yet highly beneficial project that will
add value to Cornish fish products and create two new jobs in the
Cornish fishing industry."
