Armed police arrested a man in Newlyn last week after a six-hour
stand-off ended peacefully.Firearms officers were called to The Strand
just before 7pm on Wednesday in response to reports that a man had
produced a gun in the street.
The alleged incident followed a fight inside The Star Inn.
Police say all available units were immediately sent to the fishing port, among them an armed response unit from Bodmin.
A
cordon was then set up around a property close to The Strand and police
negotiators were drafted into the area in a bid to resolve the
situation.
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "At
6.49pm on Wednesday, December 6, police were notified of a fight in a
public house in Newlyn where it was alleged that a male person had
produced a firearm.
"A man was arrested at about 1am at a nearby
address. After initially refusing to co-operate he was contacted by
police negotiators and then persuaded to leave the address.
"No shots were fired and no injuries caused to any person."
A 40-year-old man from Camborne was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
He has been released on police bail until March 7, 2007.
Last Thursday police recovered a discarded handgun after a member of the public spotted it in the vicinity of The Strand.
