the Antiguan flagged cargo vessel Wirdum. Owned by Reederei Erwin
Strahlmann of Marne, Germany, she was built in 1993 with a gross
tonnage of 2,446 and a deadweight of 3,709 tons. She is 87 metres in
length with a beam of 13 metres and a draft of 5.5 metres. Capable of
carrying either 4,649 cubic metres of grain or 176 containers, her
2,011bhp engine gives her a speed of 10 knots.
She was followed by the
Cypriot flagged bulk carrier Adrianople. Owned by Marmaras Navigation
Ltd, of Piraeus, Greece, she was built in 1984 and is 188 metres in
length with a beam of 28 metres and a draft of 10.9 metres. Gross
tonnage is 21,998 deadweight is 37,752 tons and she is capable of
carrying 47,589 cubic metres of grain with her 8,160bhp engine giving
her a speed of 14 knots.
Heading eastwards towards The Lizard was the
Cayman Islands-flagged chemical tanker Stolt Shearwater owned by
Finanziaria Marittima of Naples, Italy. Built in 1998 with a gross
tonnage of 3,811 and a deadweight of 5,498 tons, she is 96 metres in
length with a beam of 16 metres and a draft of 6.5 metres. She can
carry 5,338 cubic metres of liquid chemicals at a speed of 12.8 knots.
Heading eastwards in the evening was the Liberian-flagged fruit juice
tanker Bebedouro owned by V Ships (UK) Ltd, of Glasgow. Built in 1986
with a gross tonnage of 11,150 and a deadweight of 14,873 tons, she is
147 metres in length with a beam of 23 metres and a draft of 8.8
metres. Capable of carrying 8,987 cubic metres of liquid fruit juice,
her 8,640bhp engine gives her a speed of 17.8 knots.
Monday January 1
Heading westwards in the morning was the British flagged cargo vessel
Sea Humber owned by Boddingtons Shipping Ltd, of Braintree, Essex.
Built in 1977 with a gross tonnage of 1,602 and a deadweight of 2,139
tons, she is 69 metres in length with a beam of 13 metres and a draft
of 4.5 metres. She is capable of carrying 2,860 cubic metres of grain
at a speed of 10.5 knots.
Heading eastwards was the Danish flagged
cargo vessel Danica White owned by H Folmer & Co, of Copenhagen,
Denmark. Built in 1985 she is 62 metres in length with a beam of 10
metres and a draft of 4.5 metres. Her gross tonnage is 997, deadweight
is 1,616 tons and she is capable of carrying 2,102 cubic metres of
grain or 45 containers with her 810bhp engine giving her a speed of 11
knots.
Anchoring in the bay overnight was the Cayman Islands-flagged
chemical tanker Stolt Kite owned by Stolt-Nielsen Inter Europe Service
of Monrovia, Liberia. Built in 1992, she is 96 metres in length, with a
beam of 15 metres and a draft of 6.2 metres. Gross tonnage is 3,206,
deadweight is 4,735 and she is capable of carrying 4,845 cubic metres
of liquid chemicals with her 4,078bhp engine giving her a speed of 12
knots.
Tuesday
January 2
Stolt Kite weighed, anchored and headed westwards in the
morning. Also heading westwards across the Bay was the Isle of Man
flagged cargo vessel Cec Delta (ex Sea Delta) owned by CEC
Shipmanagement of Svendborg, Denmark. Built in 1991 she is 88 metres in
length with a beam of 15 metres and a draft of six metres. Gross
tonnage is 2,815, deadweight is 4,110 tons and she is able to carry
either 5,240 cubic metres of grain or 272 containers, of which 25 can
be refrigerated with her 2,989bhp engine giving her a speed of 13.5
knots.
Astern of her was the Antiguan-flagged cargo vessel Ajos G,
owned by Captain Josef Gerdes Schiffahrtsges of Haren-Ems, Germany.
Built in 1996, she is 88 metres in length with a beam of 11 metres and
a draft of 4.9 metres. Gross tonnage is 2,061, deadweight is 3,006 tons
and she is able to carry 4,165 cubic metres of grain with her 1,509bhp
engine giving her a speed of 10.5 knots. In the evening the Aland
Islands flagged ro/ro vessel Link Star headed westwards. Owned by Godby
Shipping of Aland Islands, Finland, she was built in 1989 and is 106
metres in length with a beam of 17 metres and a draft of 6.1 metres. Gross tonnage is 5,627, deadweight is 4,453 tons and she is capable of
carrying 9,766 cubic metres of grain or 180 containers with her
4,024bhp engine giving her a speed of 15.3 knots.
Heading eastwards was
the Bahamian flagged cargo vessel Sava Ocean, owned by Kopervik Ship
Management of Kopervik, Norway. Built in 1993 she is 74 metres in
length with a beam of 13 metres and a draft of 6.1 metres. Gross
tonnage is 2,026, deadweight is 3,090 tons and she is able to carry
either 3,792 cubic metres of grain or 98 containers with her 1,971bhp
engine giving her a speed of 11 knots.
Following astern was the Cayman
Island-flagged cargo vessel Swan Diana (ex Priority) owned by Torbulk
Ltd, of Grimsby. Built in 1982 with a gross tonnage of 2,113 and a
deadweight of 2,859 tons she is 90 metres in length with a draft of 5.5
metres. Capable of carrying 2,123 cubic metres of grain, her 2,320bhp
engine gives her a speed of 12 knots. The Blejan Eyre (FY.527)
completed her work on the slipway and was launched on the afternoon
tide.
Wednesday January 3
Heading westwards in the afternoon was
the Panamanian-flagged container vessel Msc Jordan owned by
Mediterranean Shipping Co, of Geneva, Switzerland. Built in 1993, she
is 237 metres in length with a beam of 32 metres and a draft of 12
metres. Gross tonnage is 37,071, deadweight is 46,600 tons and she can
carry 3,105 containers of which 100 can be refrigerated, with her
29,500bhp engine giving her a speed of 21 knots.
In the evening the
Singaporian-flagged lpg carrier Sigas Champion headed westwards. Owned
by the Eitzen Gas of Gentofte, Denmark, she was built in 1995 with a
gross tonnage of 2,458 and a deadweight of 2,347 tons. She is 74 metres
in length with a beam of 14 metres and a draft of 4.8 metres. Capable
of carrying 1,970 cubic metres of liquid petroleum gas her 2,528bhp
engine gives her a speed of 12 knots.

Heading towards Lands End in the morning was the
Dutch-flagged container vessel Vanquish (ex Varmland) owned by Holwerda
Shipmanagement of Heerenveen, Holland. Built in 1995 with a gross
tonnage of 2,997 and a deadweight of 4,624 tons she is 100 metres in
length with a beam of 16 metres and a draft of 6 metres. Capable of
carrying either 4,747 cubic metres of grain or 366 containers, of which
40 can be refrigerated, her 4,720bhp engine gives her a speed of 15
knots.
Heading towards The Lizard was the Swedish flagged container
vessel Atlantic Concert owned by Grimaldi Group Napoli of Naples,
Italy. Built in 1987, she is 292 metres in length with a beam of 32
metres and a draft of 11.6 metres. Gross tonnage is 57,255, deadweight
is 46,303 tons and she is capable of carrying 3,266 containers of which
358 can be refrigerated. Her 27,449bhp engine gives her a speed of 17.5
knots.
In the afternoon, the Dominican-flagged cargo vessel Kagu owned
by Gertron Joint Stock Co, of Tallinn, Estonia, headed eastwards. Built
in 1977 with a gross tonnage of 1,589 and a deadweight of 2,824 tons,
she is 63 metres in length with a beam of 13 metres and a draft of 6.6
metres. Capable of carrying 3,235 cubic metres of grain or 80
containers her 1,575bhp engine gives her a speed of 10.5 knots.
Also
heading east in the evening was the Dutch flagged cargo vessel Linda
Marlike owned by Wagenborg Shipping of Delfzijl, Holland. Built in 1992
she is 75 metres in length with a beam of 11 metres and a draft of four
metres. Gross tonnage is 1,359, deadweight is 1,850 tons and she is
capable of carrying 2,631 cubic metres of grain with her 1,299bhp
engine giving her a speed of 11 knots.
