The impressive RNLI Penlee lifeboat has been seen out of the water for the first time in its home port.'Ivan Ellen', the huge Severn class lifeboat based at Penlee has to be taken out of the water every six months for routine checks and painting.

It is normally taken to Falmouth, but this year the RNLI decided it would be more practical to carry out the procedure in Newlyn.

The harbour commissioners gave permission to use the slipway and the boat was taken out for RNLI engineers and the Penlee crew to carry out the work.

Neil Brockman, coxswain of the boat, said: "It's great for people here to see the boat out of the water. A lot of people have been taking photographs.

"It all went very well and we would like to thank the Newlyn Harbour Commissioners."
