Heading westwards in the morning was the Dutch flagged
coaster Marie Christine. Built in 1991 with a gross tonnage of 2,561,
she is 87 metres in length with a beam of 12 metres and a draft of 5.3
metres. She is capable of carrying 5,550 cubic metres of grain or 129
containers.
Astern of her, and on the way to Cork, was the Antiguan
flagged coaster Validus, gross tonnage 2,990, length 99m, beam 17m,
draft 5.9m. She can carry 4,456cu m of grain or 370 containers, of
which 60 can be refrigerated, at 15 knots.
Passing her, heading east,
was the Dominican flagged coaster Skadi, gross tonnage 2,239, length
81m, beam 13m, draft 5.1m. She can carry 4,730cu m of grain or 150
containers at 13.7 knots.
Astern of her was the Antiguan flagged
coaster Apollo Condor, gross tonnage 4,255, length 101m, beam 16m,
draft 7.2m. She can carry 8,040cu m of grain or 180 containers, at 13
knots.
Arriving at Newlyn in the morning was the survey and dive support
vessel Seahorse II, from the Isle of Bute, in Scotland. She is 26m in
length with a beam of 7m and a draft of 3m. She has a speed of 11
knots, and is currently working with the Royal Navy carrying out combat
weapons trials and calibration off Scilly. She called into Newlyn to
load equipment.
In the afternoon the Italian flagged ro/ro vessel
Grande Italia headed westwards. She has a gross tonnage of 37,726, is
176m in length with a beam of 31m and a draft of 7.5m. She can carry
4,300 cars and 12passengers. She has a speed of 21 knots.
Monday June 18
Heading west in the morning was the Antiguan flagged coaster Emstal,
gross tonnage 3,791, length 100m, beam 16m, draft 5.9m. She can carry
6,634cu m of grain or 390 containers, of which 50 can be refrigerated,
at 15.7 knots.
Heading eastwards was the Antiguan flagged container
vessel C2C Lupus, gross tonnage 6,901, length 140m, beam 20m, draft
9.45m. She can carry 750 containers, of which 150 can be refrigerated,
at 17.8 knots.
Astern of her was another Antiguan flagged container
vessel, the BG Rotterdam. gross tonnage 6,368, length 132m, beam 19m,
draft 7.3m. She can carry 714 containers, of which 80 can be
refrigerated, at 17 knots.
Passing her and heading east was the Danish
flagged chemical/oil carrier Nora Wonsild, gross tonnage 4,137, length
99m, beam 16m, draft 9.1m. She can carry 6,762cu m of liquid chemicals
or oil at 12.5 knots. The Dutch scalloper Jacoba (UK 307) landed at
Newlyn.
Tuesday June 19
Heading west in the morning was the Antiguan
flagged coaster Nikar G, gross tonnage 2,301, length 79m, beam 12m,
draft 5.3m. she can carry 4,782cu m of grain or 132 containers at 11.5
knots.
Carrying out manoeuvres in the bay was the Duke Class (Type 23)
Frigate HMS Kent (F 78). Displacing 3,500 tons, she is 133m in length
with a beam of 15m and a draft of 5m. Her speed is 28 knots and ship's
complement is 173. Her armament consists of Harpoon anti-ship missiles,
Sea Wolf anti-missile and anti-aircraft missiles, one 4.5 inch gun, two
single 30 mm guns, torpedo tubes and a Lynx helicopter.
The Sara
Cathryn (PZ 753) was slipped at Newlyn for a bottom scrub and coat of
anti-fouling paint. Wednesday June 20 Tacob (D 141) landed on Newlyn
Market.
Heading west in the morning was the Norwegian flagged coaster
Aasli, gross tonnage 3,968, length 100m, beam 16m, draft 7m. Her speed
is 11.7 knots.
She was followed by the Bahamian flagged twin screwed
cruise ship Jewel Of The Seas. With a gross tonnage of 90,090, she can
carry 2,100 passengers. Her length is 293m, beam 40m, and draft 8.5m.
Her operational speed is 24 knots.
Passing her and heading east was the
Antiguan flagged coaster Adele C, gross tonnage 3,992, length 101m,
beam 18m, draft 6.6m. She can carry 7,275cu m of grain or 515
containers, of which 50 can be refrigerated, at 15.5 knots.
In the
afternoon the Antiguan flagged coaster Graf Uko (ex Nordstrand) headed
westwards. Her gross tonnage is 2,481, length 87m, beam 13m, 5m. She
can carry 4,650cu m of grain or 202 containers, of which 20 can be
refrigerated, at 12 knots.
Thursday June 21
Heading west in the morning
was the Antiguan flagged container vessel Cscl Fos, gross tonnage
30,024, length 205m, beam 32m, draft 11.5m. She can carry 2,672
containers, of which 400 can be refrigerated, at 21.6 knots.
Passing
her and heading east was Cayman Islands flagged chemical tanker Stolt
Frigate (ex Turchese) gross tonnage 3,503, length 118m, beam 16m, 6.1m.
She can carry 6,527cu m of liquid chemicals at 13.5 knots.
Astern of
her was the Cypriot flagged product tanker Oralake, length 82m, draft
6.5m. She can carry 3,300cu m of liquid products. Anchoring in the bay
before proceeding into Penzance in the evening was the Irish brig
Asgard II. Built in 1981, she is 27m in length with a beam of 6.7m and
a draft of 3m.
Also calling at Penzance was the Sea Cadet training
vessel TS John Jerwood donated to the Cadets by the John Jerwood
Foundation.
Friday June 22 Calling at Newlyn early in the morning with
a mechanical problem was the Saint Brieuc registered French trawler
Princess Laurie (SB 711723). Repairs were quickly carried out and she
proceeded again on the tide.
Heading west was the Russian flagged
coaster Igor Grabar, gross tonnage 3,527, length 97m, beam 16m, draft
6.7m. She can carry 5,892cu m of grain or 144 containers at 14 knots.
Heading east in the afternoon was the Antiguan flagged coaster
Krempertor (ex Lady Lisa), gross tonnage 3,432, length 87m, beam 13m,
draft 5.1m. She can carry 4,650cu m of grain or 138 containers at 12
knots. Astern of her was the Russian flagged coaster Sormovskiy 3067,
gross tonnage 3,048, length 119m, beam 13m, draft 3.8m. She can carry
4,751cu m of grain or 108 containers at 10.5 knots.
Heading west on her
way to Milford Haven was the Dutch flagged product tanker Bro Granite,
gross tonnage 4,300, length 115m, draft 6.8m. She can carry 8,034cu m
of liquid products.
