Q. Hello All. The Hunt's & Thomas's, with 5 children from 4yrs - 10yrs between them are coming to Newlyn next week. Any ideas for Children's activites etc for wet weather or just a change from the Beach, Pottering around the boats/harbour etc would be gratefully received.

A. The weather forecast for next week seems quite good so hopefully you will not need to find wet weather activities,however...
the children are rather young for galleries and museums but there is a user friendly theme park near Helston, Flambards. This is not too far to drive or you can get a bus from Penzance. Once in, the entrance fee covers all activities and they do have special offers. I would suggest that when you arrive you get a copy of the local weekly newspaper the Cornishman. This will have details of events and towards the back of the paper you will find discount vouchers for places like Flambards.
For a dull day - but not torrential rain - young children love the Paradise Park Wildlife Sanctuary. There is a play area, pets corner and a quiz for children. There are free-flying bird shows with eagles, parrots and kookaburras. This park is at Hayle so easily accessible. You could spend a day wandering around St. Ives, not easy to park but why not drive to Lelant Saltings and pick up the train which runs along beside the sea at St. Ives. The weather might pick up while you are there and then the sandy beaches are lovely. Parking and train fare are combined and the train takes you right into St. Ives. For lunch you could go to the Tate Gallery, no need to pay to see the pictures in order to go to the cafe. It is on the top floor with fantastic views over the beach and bay.
Lastly, if you are starting your holiday this weekend, don't miss the Fish Festival here in Newlyn whatever the weather. Details on this website. Maybe someone else will contribute ideas? Have a good holiday
