And they're off! Newlyn's annual raft race may have left some with that
sinking feeling but the event raised more than £1,100 for the
community's Christmas Lights appeal.
Light-hearted competitors in fancy
dress lined the shore watched by hundreds on the stony beach.
The
choppy sea didn't exactly make light work for the crews but The Dolphin
Inn's all-male team proved to be the fastest rowers on the day.
The Meadery Maidens, all dressed in white, made it in second place, just beating the McEnroers from The Fisherman's Arms.
The Muppets won first place in the junior race.
Sadly The Little Rascals didn't get far before their raft tipped over.
But two members of the RNLI lifeboat crew went swiftly overboard to see the young competitors safely back to shore.
Cath Mildren, event organiser, said the day was a brilliant success.
A further £900 raised by the committee's Sunday stall at Newlyn Fish Festival had secured Newlyn's Christmas light's switch-on.
