Tackle out for fishing calendar Print E-mail
Thursday, 13 September 2007
Not so much floundering as flaunting their pollocks on the high sea are a group of Newlyn-based fishermen.

The crew of the beam trawler Chloe T have bared all for the Duchy Fish Quota Company's 2008 Calendar 'The Naked Trawlermen's Story'.

Following its launch at the Newlyn Fish Festival, the calendar has been selling fast. With a limited print run of only 2,000 only a lucky few will be able to net themselves a copy.

Duchy company secretary Nathan de Rozarieux, Newlyn fishermen Matthew and David Pascoe and Phil Trebilcock, from Newquay, who have all featured in previous calendars, travelled to London last week to appear on Alan Titchmarsh's television show.

The 2008 calendar tells the story of the trawlermen's journey from leaving port to returning to market with their catch.

The crew carried out all their normal fishing operations on the open sea while completely naked, treating dolphins and other marine life to more than an eyeful.

Sponsors of the calendar included Moshi Moshi Sushi, Heltor Ltd, JH Turner & Co, Newline Fuels, Falfish, G W Containers, Celtic Fish & Game, Cornish Ice Co, Wing of St Mawes, Seabourne Fish, Quayside Fish, Bluesail, Seafood Cornwall and the Cornwall Fisheries Resource Centre.

Each sponsor paid for a page of the calendar in return for a small advert.

Having this contribution means that all money raised from the sale of the calendars can go directly to buying more fish quota to keep Cornwall fishing.

The company aims to buy up as much Cornish fish quota as possible to ensure the future livelihoods of Cornish fishermen, the Cornish fishing industry and all those associated with it.

* To order a DFQC calendar - send a cheque for £6 per calendar to the Duchy Fish Quota Company, Trevint House, Strangways Villas, Truro TR1 2PA, or visit www.duchyfishquota.co.uk
