Getting ready to sound trumpets! |

Author of the acclaimed book of Cornish tales Now 'Ark To Me, published
in 2006, she gives her play the subtitle of a Newlyn Nativity Play.
Fishing even gets a mention with references to problems being
experienced by the fishermen of Galilee, and she has taken the bold
step of writing the dialogue for the majority of her characters in
local dialect. She says: "I've tried to make the people in the play as
real as possible, hence the dialect." Fortunately she uses it in
moderation, and the services of an interpreter aren't required. Not
surprisingly, she has also written in a generous measure of good humour
but, as she adds: "I couldn't do a lot with the three wise men, but I
have given each a different reason for following the star. One being an
astronomer, one a mystic, and the other an environmentalist."
Written
and produced by her primarily as an act of worship, but also in the
hope of raising funds for St Peter's Church, it is being performed,
apart from three actors co-opted from the St Peter's Players, by
members of the congregation.
In many cases very courageously, as there are those in the cast who are only in it by persuasion, and have never acted before.
With
carols in which members of the audience are invited to join, songs and
music, Born the Saviour King to Clash the Cymbals, by Chris Kingshott,
a very keen little choir, plus a solo dance spot by Zoe Wilton, not to
mention the wardrobe of colourful costumes assembled by Carol Grainger
and June Waldren, the sound of this particular trumpet is likely soon
to be heard ringing out loudly and clearly all over Newlyn.
