A fixture of Newlyn's calendar for the past 21 years, there will be no Buccas Fair in 2006.
According to organisers, Newlyn Male Choir, the event, usually held on the port's green, has been cancelled due to "the lack of available manpower to do all the work, bringing in the equipment, erecting and manning stalls and clearing up afterwards."
But the choir hopes the fair will make a return next year.
A spokesman for the choir said: "In the meantime we would like to express our grateful thanks to everyone who has taken part in the fairs over the years, stall holders, entertainers, people who have loaned equipment and those who have supported us with donations of both money and goods, and most importantly the public who have attended the fairs."
Bryan Marshall, secretary of the choir, added: "Unfortunately we are in this position because, for one reason or another, the choir has lost a few members with long term illness. We are also getting older and there are others who are physically unable to help with the heavy work."
The 85-year-old choir is also looking for new members and will be arranging an open evening for prospective singers.
The choir meets every Monday, at 7.30pm upstairs in the Seaman's Mission, Newlyn. For more information call Bryan Marshall on 01736 361189 or Peter Trembath on 01736 367772.
