The skipper and crew of a Cornish beam trawler have netted a top
prize for the second year running.
Steve Moseley and his crew aboard the
Newlyn-based Billy Rowney were awarded the coveted Seafood Cornwall vessel
quality of the year award.
The award recognises boats which have
consistently landed top-quality fish through improved gutting, washing and icing
of the catch while at sea and on the market.
In its assessment, Seafood Cornwall said the Billy Rowney achieved the
highest average score of all samples carried out in 2007.
Mr Moseley said
he was delighted, adding: "We take great pride in landing consistently high
quality fish. It's good to get some extra recognition for all our
work."
The crew of the ship are already minor celebrities in the port
after last year featuring in The World's Toughest Tribes series on Discovery
Channel.
Nathan de Rozarieux, project director of the Objective
One-funded Seafood Cornwall programme, said the crew deserved their
success.
"This is a real good news story, this whole scheme has been
about recognising those skippers and crews that go the extra mile, often in very
tough conditions, to make sure that the fish being landed in Cornwall really
stands out as top quality," he said.
