Buenos Aires Social Club is a
five-day exhibition of Tango-generated art and interventions showing as
part of Transition at Newlyn Art Gallery.
Running
from today until Sunday the show features the work of Amanda Lorens and
will work in collaboration with a group of artists to curate and
produce an exhibition that uses tango dancing as a means of exploring
issues around intimacy and non-verbal communication. The artists will
create work in a variety of media including drawing, video,
performance, writing, sound, dance, and photography.
This unusual and exciting exhibition will include live dance generated drawings.
Tango dancers will be invited in to the gallery and asked to dance
Tango on a piece of paper while wearing specially constructed dance
shoes that have drawing materials attached them. The dancers are
completely unaware of the marks their feet are making but the resulting
drawings are extraordinary and rather beautiful.
Free five-minute tango lessons will be offered throughout the week for the general public all are welcome.
Live tango interventions will be performed every day from noon to 2pm and from 3.45pm to 4.45pm.
On Saturday at 7pm there will be a final performance and event open to the public.
If you can dance tango and would like to participate in the Buenos Aires Social Club or you just want to know more contact
