Capture the essence of Newlyn on camera and your efforts will be part of a project aimed at ensuring that the character of the working port is retained forever.
Voice of the Arts in Newlyn (VAN) have been awarded a grant of £460 by the Co-op Community Development Fund to run a photographic project open to the whole community.
VAN invites everyone who knows Newlyn to send in photos of the little things that they value. These pictures will be displayed in the centre of the village this summer.
VAN's Susannah Clemence says: "Newlyn will soon have a beautiful new fish market, judging by the architects' preliminary sketches. But even well-designed changes can result in the accidental sweeping aside of valued detail, if they are not noted and recorded in time. For instance, the dark wood porch of the bank was an unavoidable casualty of improving disabled access."
Susannah explained that the inspiration for the project started from the Cornish palm that flourishes bravely in a section of old wall adjacent to the current market, opposite Badcocks Gallery.
As well as things people may be "sorry to lose", VAN is also collecting images of details people would be not sorry to lose.
Photos should be printed in 7x5 format, and delivered to VAN at 36A, The Strand, TR18 5HW by July 1. The photographer's name, address and phone number should be clearly written on the back of each picture, and whether it is something the photographer would be sorry or not sorry to lose.
Further information can be obtained from Susannah Clemence on 01736 333846.
