Daily pictorial news of comings and
goings at Newlyn are now posted on an Internet blog compiled by Larry
Hartwell - once a Newlyn fishermen who now lecturers at a local college.
.He
records many of the port's colourful events and often presents them
with an artistic edge; using a recently bought Nikon D200 digital
camera - and a fish eye lens - he reveals both serious and humorous
events.
He said: "I try to be there in my spare time each day,
sometimes at dawn and sometimes at dusk. When you are a fisherman or
have been one you never really get fishing out of your mind; I just
love the industry."
Already posted are masses of pictures taken over 100 days, some
including short video clips, with many taken at sea by the fishermen.
Larry
said: "I try to follow the life and times of a Cornish fishing fleet
and those who work from the largest fishing port in England. Newlyn
regularly handles up to 80 species of trawl, line and net-caught fish,
most being exported to Spain and France. It remains a very important
part of the UK industry and there's always something going on, both
night and day."
