From Douglas williams MBE Chairman Newlyn Memorial to
Fishermen Lost at Sea Newlyn
AS you are aware, we have had a mighty
response in Cornwall and nationally to our fund-raising appeal on
behalf of the Memorial to Fishermen Lost at Sea.
We had a wonderful day
in October last when HRH the Princess Royal unveiled the splendid
bronze statue. It has been greatly admired. Our fund-raising efforts
have continued towards the £50,000 target and we are currently striving
to complete important work at the site. The local authorities have been
most helpful in strengthening the sea wall and defences. The committee
aims to finish the memorial area with attractive craftsman-built
fencing, with disabled access, to place polished granite under the
statue and install essential lighting and CCTV camera for added
security.
All
this will cost thousands of pounds. We are writing to ask if your
readers can help towards this final effort. We would be most grateful
for your support in this.
