SHELTERBOX came to Newlyn Green at the weekend when
Air Training Corps cadets spent two nights under canvas to experience
the hardships endured by those made homeless by natural disasters.
The Helston-based charity which provides living kits to disaster victims had representatives on site to answer questions.
The
"sleep-over" initiative, the brainchild of the Rev Harry Bourne,
chaplain to the RAF and the West Cornwall Squadron of the ATC for many
years, was set up to bring the plight of homeless people to life for
the young folk in the ATC as part of their awareness-building of
charitable and community concerns.
ATC
Sgt Tom Pearson, who lives at Paul, said: " I've spent time with
ShelterBox packing the boxes but this can't compare with mixing with
people from the charity and learning so much about what they have done
to alleviate the hardships of homeless people."
