Making a welcome return, the festival is back,
running from the 5th to the 9th of November 2008.
Held at venues around the
village, the festival will celebrate the unique character of Newlyn’s
creativity with an extended programme that will welcome special guest
artists and showcase the art, sculpture, craft, photography, dance,
theatre and music that has become so much a part of local life.
Following on from last year’s successful inaugural weekend this year’s event Includes an exhibition by Newlyn artists at Newlyn Art Gallery, an Arts & Crafts Fair at the Centre, outdoor installation art at a large private garden in the village involving students from Penwith College, an evening of dance at the Centre featuring Shallal and a Cornish folk music and dance event with the group “Dalla.”
Music fans will find plenty of interest with “Let’s Play Records,” an all-day drop-in event dedicated to vinyl and cover art, a “requests” disco and a live set from the delectably funky “Beach Supreme.” “Newlyn Unplugged” returns with its open mic session for younger musicians, there will be poetry performance, pub events and more.
Newlyn also looks forward to welcoming the Bish Bash Bosh Company with its sell-out drama, “The Tin Violin” which visited the Acorn earlier this year. The whole community is gearing up to get involved, with school children from Newlyn Primary School taking part in workshops and hosting their own exhibition at Newlyn Art Gallery.
The organisers are currently inviting submissions from locally-based artists in all disciplines (painting, ceramics, sculpture, photography, installation) for both the indoor and outdoor shows –email Annie Metcalfe
