THE recent two male voice choir concerts held in
Richmond Church arranged by Newlyn Male Choir, in aid of the Children's
Hospice South West Precious Lives Appeal, proved to be a great success.
The
two choirs, Newlyn and a visiting choir from Merseyside, Aughton MVC,
gave a fine performance of traditional male voice choir music.
Newlyn opened the programme with that rousing piece God's choir, followed by a quiet piece, Where'er you walk.
Their whole programme was a mixture of powerful and quieter pieces showing their ability to cover a wide range of music, Love could I only tell thee being a particularly moving piece.
The
choir was ably conducted by musical director David Woodger, and
accompanied by Marion Rae, who is starting her 50th year with the choir.
The Aughton choir, which performed a varied programme including Voice of a child, Can't help falling in love and a Sinatra medley, were given a warm Cornish welcome.
They were conducted by Neil Williams with accompanist Philip Miles.
Guest
artists the Matthews sisters, who have raised a considerable amount of
money for the charity through sales of their CD, gave a fine
performance.
The concert closed with the two choirs combining to sing Song of the Jolly Roger and Morte Criste.
The
concert was warmly received by a capacity audience and the evening was
finished off with a social gathering in the Astro Club before Aughton
returned to their hotel in Newquay.
The
concert, which helped to raise £500, was chaired by Tiffany Truscott of
Radio Cornwall, who gave a brief talk on the work of the Children's
Hospice and said one was needed in Cornwall.
Thanks go to everyone who attended and supported the event.
