NEWLYN'S fishing industry is the focus of a new documentary on The Discovery Channel called Trawler Wars.

The series, which airs on Sunday evenings, was filmed in the waters of Newlyn and Brixham for three months over the winter.

The series follows trawlers through the most treacherous months when the seas and fish prices are at their highest.

Film crews joined the fishermen as they battled the elements to bring home the prized haul from the seas.

The action takes place aboard trawlers including Newlyn's Billy Rowney, Filadelphia, Lisa Jacqueline and Twilight III, capturing life on the boats during one of the harshest winters for many years.

Trawler Wars portrays the battle the skippers and their crews face against treacherous weather and dangerous conditions in order to make a living.

At the end of the series, it reveals the port that has brought in the biggest catch and at what cost.

During the series the RNLI also come to the rescue of some of the trawlermen.
