Fishermen's Missions in Brixham and Newlyn, which have provided a vital service to the ports' fishermen for almost 90 years, are to be axed. They are two of the remaining seven missions in the UK, all of which are to close their doors.

As part of a cost-cutting exercise, trustees of the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen – known generally as the Fishermen's Mission – will close facilities over the next five years, although no dates have yet been fixed. The charity is planning to replace some of the missions, including Brixham, with smaller, more cost-effective facilities.
