VOCATIONAL art students from Penwith College will be exhibiting a range of sculptural works in the historic surroundings of Orchard Cottage Gardens, Bellvue as part of the 2010 Newlyn Arts Festival.
By kind agreement of the owner, Pat Garnier, and the artist and event organiser, Annie Metcalfe, the students have been asked to produce an alternative visual representation of Cornwall and Cornish life.
Second year National Diploma student Rebecca Thomas describes her work as "inspired by Cornish festivals, the rhythm of the dance, the beating of the drum and the vibrant colours of celebration".
Scott Sedgeman's Whiteout Wipe-out is an abstracted reconstruction of a surfboard which draws inspiration from contemporary Cornish youth culture.
Other highlights of the show include Leslie Jehu's Mermaid, Quartz Lucien's Old Tin Mine and Jemma Scanlon's One Hundred and Twenty Three Sardines.
The gardens will be open to the public from 11am to 4pm, tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.
