LOST OR stolen fish boxes are costing Newlyn's harbour commissioners thousands of pounds a year.

A recent meeting in the port heard that some 400 large plastic boxes had gone missing during 2010.

Worth £10 each, that means the commission has lost £4,000 worth of goods, said harbourmaster Andrew Munson.

There are now 1,650 small boxes and 525 large boxes available for fishermen to use.

The commissioners issued a plea for anyone who has any of the missing boxes to return them – and to make sure no more disappear this year.
