HERE is the statement issued by the Newlyn Pier and Harbour Commissioners on Wednesday, June 1, in full:
The chairman, having reviewed the performance of the commission at the end of its first year, made a recommendation on its future composition to enable it to achieve its goal of ensuring that Newlyn thrives as the most successful fishing port possible.
It was decided regretfully, that the services of three commissioners would no longer be required.
Gilbert McCabe, chairman of NPHC, said: "This is an important moment for the board to move forward in a united and cohesive way for the long-term benefit of Newlyn harbour and the local community.
"It is also important that the harbour commission has the widest possible skill base and will be seeking new commissioners in the very near future.
"However in the short term we will be moving forward with our plans for the harbour.
"I would like to reassure all harbour users and the wider community that all the board's actions are taken very seriously and for the best interests of the wider community."
