CALL FOR GILBERT McCABE TO RESIGN
The people of Newlyn have been horrified to find that Gilbert McCabe has tried to remove the properly selected independent Community Commissioners from the Board of Newlyn Pier and Harbour Commissioners in an unconstitutional and arbitrary way with total disregard to the NewlynHarbour Revision Order Act of Parliament signed last year to create a new commission operating under the Guide to Good Governance of a Trust Port. He is now trying to concoct a puppet board. Thankfully, Ray Tovey, the Tory councillor for Gwinear-Gwithian and St Erth, has now stepped down as vice-chairman.
The Commission led by Gilbert McCabe swung the vote against the proposals for a new Fish Marketfor Newlyn and £3.4 million of grant money in a surprise vote last summer, destroying ten years of preparatory work and wasting millions of pounds of public money spent on surveys and reports. Since then, the Commission failed to produce the promised business plan by Christmas 2010 and has failed to move forward in a positive manner.
Outsider Gilbert McCabe has led a path of destruction against all regeneration and future prospects for Newlyn and has failed to provide leadership or dynamism.
The three Commissioners attacked by McCabe consider themselves still to be Harbour Commissioners and contrary to an article in Monday’s Western Morning News are working with the Department for Transport to right the wrong done.
In a poll of the Newlyn population, the Commissioners standing up for the rights of Newlyn received overwhelming support and Gilbert McCabe and Ray Tovey received no votes to continue as Commissioners.
The People of Newlyn call on Gilbert McCabe to resign immediately as Chairman of the Newlyn Pier and Harbour Commissioners.
