A NEW project was launched this month to help youngsters get to grips with Cornwall's fishing industry.
Under the Net To Plate scheme, children from six schools will visit Newlyn to meet fishermen and learn about the different types of fishing boats.
The project will give pupils an unforgettable experience, according to Sarah Crosbie, manager of Seafood Cornwall Training which is co-ordinating the visits.
"Bringing children to Newlyn means they can see, feel and breathe the fish and fishing industry, a key part of Cornwall's heritage and economic future," she said.
"We adapt each visit to suit the schools' needs and if past visits are anything to go by, it's something the children won't ever forget."
The venture is being supported by Falfish and the Cornish Fish Producers' Organisation. Places are still available for schools to tour the port. For more details call Sarah Crosbie on 01736 364324 or visit www.seafoodcornwalltraining.co.uk
