THE DAY-LONG fish festival could become a three-day event in the future after a hugely successful programme of maritime events over the weekend.
The Weekend of Sail preceded this year's Bank Holiday Monday Fish Festival and attracted participants and spectators from across Cornwall.
Traditional luggers and sailing boats took to Mount's Bay on Saturday and Sunday, and as the festival drew to a close on Monday, a group of luggers joined together in a rowing race across the harbour.
The Ripple, Barnabas, Guide Me and Rose of Argyll provided a spectacular display as they made their way through the harbour, with the latter claiming victory in what starter Mike Collier dubbed the new 'World Championships' of lugger rowing.
The annual Newlyn Raft Race also took place on Sunday, with hundreds turning out to see the motley crew of participants attempt to steer their makeshift rafts to victory.
Some were more successful than others, with one float unable to make it past the start.
The eventual winners of the junior race were Nursultan T, who defended their title from last year.
In the adults' race, a neck and neck race between eventual winners the Meadery girls and the Fishermans Arms was settled with a sprint finish.
Yvonne Thomas, from the Newlyn Harbour Lights Committee, estimated the event raised almost £1,000 towards proceeds for their celebrations this year.
She extended her thanks to all fundraisers for taking part
