A NEWLYN representative body which had become defunct could be re-formed following a meeting of concerned residents last week.

The once thriving Newlyn Association has failed to meet in recent years after membership began to dwindle.

However, following a meeting of members of different Newlyn groups concerned at issues facing the town, it has been suggested the association could re-form.

Ann Pilcher, who organised the meeting with members of Newlyn Environments Group, Voices of Artists of Newlyn and concerned residents, said: "Quite a few concerns were raised from different parties, people wanted things to be happening in the community.

"We feel that the harbour is not being used enough, there are a lot of little things that would make a great difference. We want all the different groups and residents in the area to get together to form a stronger association."

An open meeting is proposed for October to discuss the next step forward for residents.
