CONSULTATION starts today on plans to create a new £50,000 shared pedestrian and cycle path along a stretch of Penwith seafront near Marazion.
Cornwall Council is inviting comments on a proposal to provide a 230m length of path between Marazion Green and the Old Station car park to the west.
The popular cycle and walking route is part of the Sustrans National Cycle Network Route 3 as well as the South West Coastal Path.
The plan is to create a 3m to 4m wide route segregated from the main road to protect walkers and riders.
The proposal consists of installing a new full height kerb at the edge of the carriageway along the length of Beach Road.
Cornwall Council engineers say this will also narrow the road, slowing traffic while still allowing space for coaches and HGVs to pass safely.

Engineer Andy Roberts said the scheme will also prevent vehicles parking alongside the sea wall.
This currently happens despite current double yellow line 'no waiting' restrictions.
Yellow lines will be extended on the southern side of the road towards a new formal car park entrance to maintain adequate visibility and traffic flow.
Two seating areas will provide a view of the bay and the Mount.
As part of the scheme the new kerb will continue to Old Station Lane to allow the car park to be widened.
Resurfacing and remarking of the popular car park will also take place, and cycle stands will be installed.
Site notices are due to go up around the area from today and scheme proposals will be available to view at Penzance One Stop Shop, Ludgvan Parish Council and Marazion Town Council.
