A LAMORNA resident is hoping to facilitate the transfer of vital metalworking skills to a new generation using a concept that has taken America by storm.
Wo King plans to launch the Maker Faire craze, in which exhibitors and metalworkers show their skills in workshops and DIY competitions, in Penzance and Newlyn.
The concept, which was started by Make magazine, has swept the United States and made its way across the Atlantic to exhibitions in Newcastle and Brighton.
Mr King said he hoped the event, planned for the spring, would increase interest in an industry which did not receive enough exposure.
"There are a lot of forgers and metalworkers in the area," he said. "It's very much about passing on the skills of one generation to another.
"I would urge everyone to come on to our site and register their interest, to either help or attend.
"This is about the opportunity for people to share how to do metalwork or forge. People love to be able to create stuff; a lot of these skills could be lost."
