I would like to express our gratitude to all who supported Newlyn's
Trinity Chapel through the recent television series Restoration
Village. We were, of course, disappointed not to win, but as regional
winners we now have access to grant aid to help work up the project to
develop something all Newlyn can be proud of and benefit from.
Our thanks go to everyone who voted or helped in any way, including The Cornishman.

I also comment on "Old Mike's" complaint (The Cornishman last week)
about traffic hold ups on Chywoone Hill? We apologise sincerely to
those whose journeys have been delayed by work on the schoolroom.
The
contractors have worked hard to keep traffic disruption to a minimum
but with such a restricted site delays were inevitable during
deliveries and were, generally, managed by personnel rather than the
less flexible traffic lights "Old Mike" suggests.
However, most
of the delays on the hill are not caused by the Trinity works and will
not, unfortunately, depart with the completion of The Centre over the
next few weeks.
The traffic problems on the hill and throughout
the village have been raised in various settings including the Newlyn
Association and the Fish Industry Forum.
As a result various
bodies are currently looking at traffic management and pedestrian
safety throughout the village in a bid to find improvements where
possible.
Residents will be kept informed of developments. As to
the possibility of work on the chapel in due course, we will indeed
look at what lessons we might learn from this development and will
certainly aim to reduce delays to an absolute minimum.
Finally,
if I may, to our close neighbours: thank you for bearing with us. A
noisy and dusty year for some of you is now almost over. We hope that
you and the delayed pedestrians and drivers will find The Centre worth
the inconvenience and the great boost to the life of our village that
we intend it to be.
