Monday July 2

Heading westwards in the late afternoon was the Antiguan flagged coaster Apollo Bear, built in 1991 with a gross tonnage of 2,497. She is 88 metres long, with a beam of 13 metres and a draft of 5.5 metres. She is capable of carrying 5,222 cubic metres of grain or 96 containers, her 2,038bhp engine giving her a speed of 12 knots.

She was followed by the Antiguan flagged coaster Rheintal, gross tonnage 3,824, length 101m, beam 16m, draft 5.9m. She can carry 6,634cu m of grain or 390 containers, of which 50 can be refrigerated, at 16.3 knots.

Astern of her was the Madeiran flagged car carrier Autostar, gross tonnage 21,010, length 140m, beam 22m, draft 6.5m. She is capable of carrying 1,400 cars, her 2,854bhp engine giving her a speed of 20.9 knots.

Later in the evening the Cypriot flagged coaster Kells headed westwards. Built in 1977 with a gross tonnage of 1,986, her length is 75m, beam 12m, and draft 5.4m. She is capable of carrying 3,739cu m of grain or 104 containers, her 1,600bhp engine giving her a speed of 11.4 knots.

The Michael & David completed her work on the slipway and was launched on the evening tide to be replaced by the local beam trawler George Johannes (BM 298) which was slipped for a bottom scrub and coat of anti-fouling paint.

Tuesday July 3

Heading westwards in the morning was the Antiguan flagged coaster Allegretto, gross tonnage 3,000, length 90m, draft 5.3m. She is capable of carrying 216 containers at 12 knots.

Astern of her was the twin-screwed Russian flagged coaster Baltiyskiy 105, gross tonnage 1,926, length 95m, beam 13m, draft 4m. She is capable of carrying 3,475cu m of grain or 83 containers, her 1,740bhp engines giving her a speed of 12.5 knots.

Following her, on her way to Cardiff, was the Russian flagged coaster Amur 2531, gross tonnage 3,086, length 116m, beam 13m, draft 4ms. She is capable of carrying 4,064cu m of grain or 102 containers at an operational speed of 10 knots.

In the afternoon the Antiguan flagged coaster Maria H was sighted She has a gross tonnage of 1,297, length 74m, beam 10m, draft 3.4m. She can carry 2,351cu m of grain, her 805bhp engine giving her a speed of 10.2 knots.

Astern of her was the Dutch flagged coaster Arklow Sky, gross tonnage 2,316, length 90m, beam 12m, draft 4.6m. She can carry 4,723cu m of grain or 116 containers at 11 knots.

Passing her and heading eastwards was the Danish flagged twin screwed tug Stevns Arctic, length 33m, beam 11m, draft 5.6m. Her two 2,480bhp engines give her a speed of 13.5 knots and a bollard pull of 50 tons.

Wednesday July 4


Heading westwards in the morning was the Swedish flagged chemical / oil carrier Bro Atland, gross tonnage 11,377, length 144m, beam 23m, draft 8.4m. She can carry 19,158cu m of liquid chemicals or oil, her 8,813bhp engine giving her a speed of 15.8 knots.

She was followed by the Liberian flagged container vessel CSCL Xiamen, gross tonnage 25,369, length 207m, beam 30m, draft 11.4m. She can carry 2,500 containers, of which 320 can be refrigerated, at 21.5 knots.

Astern of her was the Maltese flagged cargo vessel Philipos, gross tonnage 7,662, length 122m, beam 20m, draft 8.1m. She can carry 12,030cu m of grain or 532 containers, of which 30 can be refrigerated, at 14.9 knots.

Heading east was the Antiguan flagged coaster Apollo Hawk, gross tonnage 4,255, length 101m, beam 16m, draft 7.2m. She can carry 8,040cu m of grain or 203 containers at 13 knots.

Astern of her was the Antiguan flagged coaster Ulrike G, gross tonnage 2,994, length 100m, beam 13m, draft 5.7m. She is capable of carrying 5,841cu m of grain or 297 containers, her 3,420bhp engine giving her a speed of 13 knots.

Heading westwards in the afternoon was the Polish flagged chemical tanker Mamry, gross tonnage 1,640, length 80m, beam 12m, draft 5.4m. She can carry 2,238cu m of liquid chemicals at 13.5 knots.

Out in the bay the ETV Anglian Princess moored alongside the Anglian Earl to exchange equipment prior to the former leaving station for maintenance and the Earl taking her place. Anglian Earl (ex Maersk Logger) has a gross tonnage of 2,311, length of 69m, beam of 16m, and draft of 6.5m. She is a twin screw tug and her 10,898bhp engine gives her a speed of 16 knots and a bollard pull or 150 tons.

Thursday July 5


Heading westwards in the morning was the Barbados flagged part container vessel Union Titan, gross tonnage 1,543, length 87m, beam 11m, draft 3.9m. She can carry 3,190cu m of grain or 98 container at 10 knots.

Heading eastwards was Dutch flagged cargo vessel Hendrika Margaretha, gross tonnage 2,058, length 81m, beam 13m, draft 5.2m. She can carry 4,228cu m of grain or 160 containers at 11.5 knots.

Heading eastwards in the afternoon was the Aland Islands flagged ro/ro vessel Link Star, gross tonnage 5,627, length 106m, beam 17m, draft 6.1m. She can carry 9,766cu m of grain or 180 containers at 15.3 knots.

The George Johannes completed her work on the slipway and was launched to be replaced by the William Sampson Stevenson (PZ 191), slipped to carry out her MCA survey.

Friday July 6

Anchored in the bay early in the morning was the Trinity House Lighthouse Vessel Patricia.

Heading eastwards in the morning was the Barbados flagged coaster Shetland Trader, gross tonnage 909, length 60m, beam 11m, draft 3.9m. She can carry 1,781cu m of grain at 11 knots.

Saturday July 7


Heading eastwards in the morning was the Barbados flagged coaster Swanland , gross tonnage 1,978, length 81m, beam 14m, draft 5.4m. She can carry 3,951cu m of grain at 12.5 knots.

Astern of her was the Singapore-flagged lpg carrier Sigas Monarch, gross tonnage 1,552, length 64m, beam 13m, draft 5m. She can carry 1,641cu m of liquid petroleum gas at 12.3 knots.

In the afternoon the Antiguan flagged coaster Thunder headed westwards. Her gross tonnage is 1,559, length 82m, beam 11m, draft 4.2m. She can carry 2,916cu m of grain or 48 containers at 10.6 knots.

Astern of her was the Gibraltarian flagged coaster Cimbris, gross tonnage 3,173, length 98m, beam 14m, draft 5.8m. She can carry 6,370cu m of grain at 13 knots.

She was followed by the Ukranian flagged product tanker Zapadnyy, gross tonnage 1,896, length 77m, beam 14m, draft 5.3m. She can carry 3,514cu m of liquid products at 10.2 knots.
