A retired fisheries officer who has captured his close encounters at sea has been exhibiting some of his work at Newlyn Centre.

Glyn Richards spent 36 years touring Cornwall's coastline as a member of the Cornwall Fisheries team.

His work, which involved enforcing fisheries legislation, brought him up close with wonderful images depicting his career at sea.

His collection, called Cornwall From The Sea, includes magnificent close-ups of basking sharks and dolphins, as well as fishing vessels that represent the ultimate in fishing power and beautiful images of Cornwall's coastline from the sea.

Perhaps the most poignant of his photographs are the images of men fishing alone at sea in their little boats that capture the solitary essence of the industry.

"I always had my camera with me and I enjoyed taking pictures of the scenes that unfolded around me," said Glyn.

"The only way you could discuss it with anyone was to take the pictures."
