A FISHING boat was helped to safety by the Lizard lifeboat last week, after colliding with a container ship. The Padstow registered fishing boat, the Nantewas, was 10 miles southwest of Lizard Point when it collided with the commercial vessel known as Herm just before 10am last Thursday. The Lizard lifeboat was called to the scene at 10.12am to help inspect the vessel. The Nantewas was not in danger of sinking. The vessel was towed into Newlyn harbour by a fishery protection vessel with the support of the Lizard lifeboat. This was to ensure they could recover the trailing equipment safely. The Nantewas suffered damage to its wheelhouse and equipment in the upper deck while one of the two crew was bleeding slightly from the head.
