Promoted again by the Rotary Club of Mount's Bay, the 12-mile walk, which has raised more than £55,000 for charities since 2003, is being held on Sunday, May 17 and this year there will be an alternative six-mile walk for those who feel they are unable to walk the full distance.
The bulk of the sponsorship money raised this year will go to support the Cornwall Air Ambulance and the Newlyn Fishermens' Mission but other charities supported locally and abroad by the Rotary Club of Mount's Bay will also benefit. The St Michael's Way starts at St Uny Church, Lelant, heading along the coastal path to Carbis Bay before turning inland across the peninsula to Marazion and St Michael's Mount.
The route was walked by pilgrims, missionaries and travellers who wished to avoid the treacherous sea journey around Land's End on their way from Ireland and Wales to the Cathedral of St James in Santiago de Compostela, north-west Spain, one of the three most important places of Christian pilgrimage in the world.
Registration forms and further walk details can be obtained from Rotarian Jim Blain on 01736 710633 or e-mail jimblain@penleen.com
