Manager David Tremeer, 43, known as 'Lofty', started his career at Cosalt in Newlyn as a delivery boy in January 1984.
The father-of-two progressed to become a shop assistant before being appointed the Newlyn branch manager 16 years ago.
He says the industry has changed extensively during his career. "I started as a delivery boy and shop assistant before becoming a manager about 16 years ago," he explained. "When I first started there were lots of small and big boats but sadly in the 1990s interest started demising.
"Although many pulled out from the industry we haven't lost too much in recent years but with fishing quotas it's difficult to see a way forward."
Lofty has many happy memories from his career and believes in remaining positive even during down times. "I travelled around the country when I was training for the manager's job.
"I have seen fishing diminishing from what it was to where we are now.
"But in the recent years we have seen many modern boats coming back and they are more diverse and adaptable. We have to stay positive in these bad times."
Cosalt is a marine safety business and has a branch in Newlyn that supply and service marine safety equipment and supply/manufacture netting for the fishing community.
